When fiancés plan their DC-area wedding, they often want their couples portraits in front of the city’s famous landmarks. No Washington DC wedding photographer finds that surprising! We frequently do portrait sessions at locations like the National Mall. Photos of newlyweds embracing with the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument or Jefferson Memorial in the background always look fantastic. Like the White House or the Smithsonian museums, those monuments are recognizable parts of DC’s skyline. Their appearance in a picture of fiancés or newlyweds immediately tells the viewer where the image was captured. That the architecture of structures like the National Archives is stunning also makes those landmarks great backgrounds for couples portraits.
We have been offering our services as DC wedding photographers to brides and grooms for several years now. During that time, we have learned that there is so much more to Nation’s Capital than the monuments and museums. Particularly with regard to wedding and engagement photos. There are almost limitless locations in Washington in which to photograph spouses-to-be and newly married couples. Brides and grooms looking for portraiture with a “historic local DC” feel would love the U Street Corridor, for example. Georgetown and its waterfront are perfect for wedding photos with a elegant and upscale vibe.
Despite being a major world city, Washington DC also offers natural settings for wedding and engagement photographs. Rock Creek Park has more than 2000 acres of green space and dozens of great spots in which to photograph spouses-to-be and newlyweds. Nearby Meridian Hill Park is home to a 13-basin cascading fountain framed by tree-lined staircases. Theodore Roosevelt Island does a beautiful job of marrying tributes to American history and the beauty of Northern Virginia. The memorial gives brides and grooms who want one of Washington’s iconic structures in their couples portraits a great option. It also, however, offers future or newly-married spouses the island’s lush woods for pictures in a rustic setting. It is the perfect embodiment of the historical significance and natural beauty that characterizes the DC metro area.
Even the suburban areas outside of Washington, DC, have a wealth of beautiful locations for wedding and engagement photography. Northern Virginia is home to the Washington area’s wine-growing region, for example. Many brides and grooms who want a rural venue for their Washington wedding choose one of the area’s many wineries. As Northern Virginia wedding photographers, we love it when they do! Some of the most beautiful portraits that we have taken of brides and grooms have that region as a setting. Its rolling hills and gorgeous sunsets make a gorgeous canvas for two people who have just tied the knot.
That was the case for the DC-based bride and groom pictured here. They exchanged their marriage vows at the Blue Valley Vineyard & Winery in suburban Washington DC. After their wedding ceremony, we took them for a brief stroll around the vineyard and some couples portraiture. The setting sun bathed the entire scene in soft orange light, making the newlyweds look great on film. The DC wedding venue accentuated the romance of the moment when the newly-married couple shared a kiss. It was sweet expression of love that a Northern Virginia wedding photographer preserved forever in this photograph.
