A Destination Wedding Rooted in Tradition
There’s something truly special about photographing a south Indian wedding in Chennai—a celebration that blends sacred rituals, family bonds, and warm hospitality with the energy of one of India’s most vibrant cities. Whether you’re a couple flying in from abroad or from another part of India, Chennai offers a perfect mix of heritage temples, serene beaches, and luxury wedding venues that make every moment unforgettable. And for us photographing a destination wedding of two people from that city was extra special!
Wedding Traditions
A south Indian wedding is more than just a ceremony—it’s a spiritual journey that unfolds over several days. From the Kashi Yatra where the groom playfully renounces worldly life until the bride’s family “brings him back,” to the Oonjal (swing ceremony) surrounded by laughter and music, every ritual carries deep cultural meaning.
For us as destination wedding photographers that came to Chennai, documenting these moments meant capturing not just smiles and colors but generations of family history in every frame.
The Couple
For Shriman Kaveri was literally the girl next door. They were neighbors even before they met and fell in love. And once they got engaged they decided to have a big traditional 5 day Indian wedding. Kaveri has an advertising background which she wanted reflected in the wedding decor. So the wedding stage had a large and creatively designed logo with the initials “S and K”.
