It only takes only one word to describe Courtney and Nick’s Omni Shoreham DC wedding: fun. From beginning to end, their nuptials were a celebration of the joyfulness of their union. Throughout the day, they and their wedding guests joked, laughed, danced, sang, toasted and enjoyed life to the fullest. It was clear to us, their DC wedding photographers, that everyone was happy to be there to witness and celebrate them tying the knot
Naturally, that festive spirit shone through in the photos we took of Courtney and Nick’s Omni Shoreham DC wedding. In almost every image they or one of their guests is laughing or celebrating. For photographers who specialize in documenting the emotional tenor of each wedding day, this was a dream scenario. When the emotions are as evident and consistent as they were that day at the Omni Shoreham Hotel, it makes our jobs awfully easy. The story of their day pretty much wrote itself!
Optimal Wedding Day Timeline
A lot of the celebratory feel of Courtney and Nick’s Omni Shoreham DC wedding was possible thanks to the way the couple scheduled their day. In planning their nuptials, they built in a lot of extra time for just hanging with their wedding party. Courtney spent several hours surrounded by her bridesmaids while she got ready in the Omni Shoreham Hotel’s elegant bridal suite. She and Nick also made time for their wedding party after their Catholic ceremony at Georgetown University’s Dahlgren Chapel. The couple popped champagne and celebrated with their closest family and friends during a leisurely ride to the hotel. Once they reached (and after a quick stop at the hotel’s convenience store for more champagne), the whole group retired to the bridal suite for another hour or so. While there, they enjoyed some snacks from McDonald’s and indulged in more revelry.
All of this extra time might not have led to much celebration if it were not for the members of the Omni Shoreham DC wedding party themselves. Though they came from different parts of the couple’s pasts, they appeared to click instantly with one another. Some were Courtney’s friends from high school. Others were Nick’s college buddies. Several were the bride’s former rugby teammates. They came from very different walks of life. In the end, though, it didn’t matter that many of them barely knew the others. They bonded over their shared love for the bride and groom. And that revealed a shared love for revelry that helped give the whole wedding that festive and fun atmosphere!
Fun Omni Shoreham DC Wedding Photos
Unsurprisingly, the wedding party’s rambunctious attitude led to some of the most meaningful photos of the day. For example, one of Courtney’s bridesmaids photobombed her while we were getting a picture of her writing a letter to Nick. A short time later, the groomsmen (and woman) pulled Nick aside for a quick toast as he was heading to the bus to the chapel. The groom demurred, but no matter. We captured an image of them proceeding without him. After the ceremony, however, the groom was more than happy to join in the celebrations on the bus ride back to the hotel.
One of our only disappointments of the day was that the stop at a liquor store for which the wedding party clamored was not possible in the end. Again, though, it didn’t matter one bit. The group popped into the Omni Shoreham Hotel’s convenience store to “reload.” Then back in the bridal suite, the party portion of the Omni Shoreham DC wedding started in earnest, and we got some of the best pictures of the day. One of the bridesmaids pretending to open a champagne bottle with her teeth. The entire wedding party digging greedily into the McDonald’s. And perhaps the shot of the day: another bridesmaid putting a lampshade on her head.
Omni Shoreham DC Wedding Reception Photos
Of course, the celebrations got even crazier once the Omni Shoreham DC wedding reception started. During the wedding party introductions, one couple paused on the dance floor to chug the beers they were carrying. The reaction of some of the bridesmaids was priceless, and the photo of that moment looks fantastic. Shortly after the couple’s first dance, one brother-in-law surprised the bride with the light-up suspenders he had bought especially for the wedding. She roared with delight — which led to another unforgettable image.
Things calmed a little during the speeches, but everyone still shared lots of laughs when the father of the bride, best man and maid of honor shared stories about the couple. Once the dance floor opened back up, though, the party kicked into high gear. The groom’s aunts danced to just about every song. One kid grabbed another by his arms and swung him in a wide circle. Two groomsmen got down low and bumped butts. A sister-in-law whipped her long hair around and around to the beat of a song. A big contingent of guests, young and old alike, created a giant chorus line, complete with high kicks. The revelry didn’t stop until the DJ packed his stuff up for the evening. And even then, we suspect that the afterparty from this Omni Shoreham DC wedding raged on somewhere else until the wee hours of the morning.
Throughout Courtney and Nick’s entire Omni Shoreham DC wedding, the venue was a fantastic host. From the spacious bridal suite to the attentive staff to the delicious food to the beautiful decor, everything about the location was perfect. It is certainly a great choice for anyone planning a wedding in the Washington DC metro area.
